WEBVTT 00:00.780 --> 00:03.240 Will you welcome Keith Green. 00:11.570 --> 00:16.310 Oh, Keith, that sounds like your music coming from the piano over there now, 00:16.370 --> 00:17.410 just a little bit of it. 00:17.770 --> 00:18.590 That was a thrill. 00:18.750 --> 00:25.010 I heard last night about 150 young people came forward to give their lives to Jesus 00:25.010 --> 00:25.630 Christ. 00:26.230 --> 00:30.230 Oh, what kind of an appeal did you make to the young people there? 00:30.370 --> 00:31.410 Tell us what happened. 00:31.410 --> 00:36.170 Well, I just, I really believe in modern day preaching. 00:36.370 --> 00:38.930 There's a real lack of the Lordship of Jesus. 00:39.130 --> 00:42.270 There's a real lack of preaching about Jesus being Lord. 00:42.390 --> 00:46.550 There's a lot of Him, preaching about Him being a financial supplier and a lot of 00:46.550 --> 00:51.190 Him preaching about being healer and a lot of Savior and what He can do for you. 00:51.690 --> 00:56.270 But there's so little preaching about what, taking up your cross and following 00:56.270 --> 00:58.030 Him and denying yourself. 00:58.030 --> 01:01.750 And I've really been preaching a lot. 01:01.930 --> 01:05.970 Well, when I go into, the average audience is probably 60% church kids, you know, 01:06.070 --> 01:08.750 kids that are in a fellowship and going to church. 01:09.550 --> 01:11.310 Some of them may have never really met Jesus. 01:11.450 --> 01:13.870 They're just following in on their parents' coattails or something. 01:14.370 --> 01:16.370 The guy doesn't have any grandchildren, you know. 01:16.550 --> 01:18.790 So they've got to come into that relationship with Him. 01:19.350 --> 01:25.070 And what I do is I present the Lordship of Jesus and the requirements of being His 01:25.070 --> 01:25.550 disciple. 01:26.790 --> 01:31.050 And a lot of people that figured they were saved because they went to church once a 01:31.050 --> 01:34.990 week or that their parents were Christians and they figured they got in just because 01:34.990 --> 01:37.830 their parents were Christians have come to realize that they've never really 01:37.830 --> 01:39.270 submitted to the Lordship of Jesus. 01:40.010 --> 01:44.050 And then, of course, there's always that 10 or 15 or 20% of the audience that's 01:44.050 --> 01:45.210 never even been in a church. 01:45.430 --> 01:49.930 And those people really get ministered to by the cost of following Jesus, 01:50.070 --> 01:50.690 which is everything. 01:50.690 --> 01:52.830 Well, I was at your concert. 01:53.270 --> 01:56.850 You were here in August, I think it was. 01:57.150 --> 01:57.610 Early August, right. 01:57.630 --> 02:01.050 And you were here on 100 Hundred Street live in the morning. 02:01.230 --> 02:06.150 And then that night I went with my teenagers to do your concert. 02:06.510 --> 02:10.090 And I was absolutely thrilled with your ability to communicate. 02:10.290 --> 02:17.150 There was that combination of humor and just fun and entertainment. 02:17.150 --> 02:22.350 But at the same time, oh, the communication that was coming through you 02:22.350 --> 02:24.310 as you sat there and bounced on that piano. 02:24.310 --> 02:25.390 I mean, literally bounced. 02:25.610 --> 02:29.390 He plays with his whole body, not just with his fingers when he plays the piano. 02:30.070 --> 02:31.970 But, you know, your background. 02:32.150 --> 02:35.810 My mom sang with the Dorseys and my grandfather was with Eddie Cantor and so 02:35.810 --> 02:36.110 on. 02:36.330 --> 02:42.510 And I know, you know, even in your background, religiously, your wife, 02:42.570 --> 02:44.830 I remember hearing her grandfather was a rabbi. 02:44.830 --> 02:51.570 But here you have all this communication musically in your background. 02:53.030 --> 02:53.850 Great music. 02:54.770 --> 03:00.290 But now here you are, completely sold out to the kind of music you're doing now, 03:00.350 --> 03:02.690 which is communicating Jesus Christ. 03:02.810 --> 03:05.270 I don't think you know that both my wife and I are born Jewish. 03:06.690 --> 03:12.330 And there's a real movement on the West Coast, especially. 03:12.950 --> 03:17.570 And we have a house ministry there and my wife and I are kind of elders of a house 03:17.570 --> 03:17.950 ministry. 03:18.250 --> 03:22.470 We have about three houses and 20 young people and take people in off the streets. 03:22.590 --> 03:27.250 And we go into prisons and go into ghettos and do different things that I really feel 03:27.250 --> 03:27.650 is lacking. 03:27.810 --> 03:31.310 You know, it's really easy to be a Christian recording artist and a Christian 03:31.310 --> 03:33.870 concert artist and all these things. 03:33.870 --> 03:39.210 But when I go home is when it really gets to be, you know, down to the bottom line, 03:39.330 --> 03:42.170 you know, of getting out on the streets and witnessing for Jesus and doing things 03:42.170 --> 03:45.870 that are so lacking, that I see lacking a lot. 03:45.870 --> 03:50.530 Well, this whole matter of the Messiah. 03:50.770 --> 03:56.730 Now, Wednesday we had a song sung here, Yeshua HaMashiach, Messiah. 03:57.290 --> 03:57.810 HaMashiach. 03:57.890 --> 04:01.630 HaMashiach, Yeshua HaMashiach, Hebrew for Jesus, our Messiah. 04:02.110 --> 04:05.250 Or in Greek, that word Messiah comes through as Christ, but... 04:05.250 --> 04:05.750 Christos, right. 04:05.850 --> 04:06.530 Christos. 04:06.530 --> 04:13.890 But here we have someone who came, who was, as Dr. Ward said, the greatest 04:13.890 --> 04:16.570 Jew that ever lived, Jesus. 04:17.150 --> 04:18.350 The world's oldest living Jew. 04:19.250 --> 04:23.690 Oh, hey, I like... and at this time of the year when we're thinking of the death and 04:23.690 --> 04:26.710 the resurrection of Jesus, the world's oldest living Jew. 04:26.890 --> 04:27.110 Right. 04:27.110 --> 04:33.830 But whatever happened to you, that you came... did you first, say, come to 04:33.830 --> 04:38.570 believe that he was maybe a good man or a good Jew, before you believed that he was 04:38.570 --> 04:41.930 the Messiah, or the Christ, or God in the flesh? 04:42.190 --> 04:45.750 Well, I have even a stranger background, because before I was born, my parents 04:45.750 --> 04:46.990 converted to Christian science. 04:48.730 --> 04:50.930 I mean, they were Jewish. 04:50.930 --> 04:51.950 They were Jewish-born. 04:52.470 --> 04:52.530 Right. 04:53.530 --> 04:57.010 When I was born, I was born into a Christian science family, Jewish-born. 04:57.190 --> 05:00.570 So I have all my relatives being Jewish and being brought up in Christian science, 05:00.690 --> 05:02.850 which is kind of like hot fudge and eggs, you know, together. 05:03.130 --> 05:05.410 It's kind of a strange mixture, you know. 05:06.470 --> 05:06.830 Wow. 05:07.430 --> 05:07.890 You know. 05:08.790 --> 05:13.030 The funny thing about Christian science, it's kind of like grape nuts. 05:13.110 --> 05:14.550 It's not grapes, it's not nuts, you know. 05:14.590 --> 05:16.790 It's not Christian, it's not scientific. 05:16.790 --> 05:22.230 And I was brought up really confused, you know, because I didn't even know I was 05:22.230 --> 05:23.710 Jewish until I was about 12 years old. 05:26.390 --> 05:30.070 And I was brought up with like the teachings of Jesus, plus the teachings of 05:30.070 --> 05:33.110 metaphysics and different things, and all kind of mixed together in a 05:33.110 --> 05:34.170 blender kind of a thing. 05:35.970 --> 05:41.130 Then all my relatives were Jewish, and on the West Coast especially, 05:41.630 --> 05:45.110 the Judaism, unless it's Orthodox, is real just, you know, bar mitzvahs, 05:45.150 --> 05:48.110 funerals, weddings, and yom kippur, and Passover. 05:48.530 --> 05:49.910 You know, that's it, you know. 05:50.510 --> 05:58.730 And so I'd go to seders, which is the practice of the Passover feast and the 05:58.730 --> 06:02.550 dinner with the bitter herbs and the matzah and the lamb and all this stuff, 06:02.910 --> 06:03.850 with relatives. 06:03.850 --> 06:07.490 And I didn't understand what was going on, you know, because I wasn't brought up 06:07.490 --> 06:11.110 really in anything but metaphysics, which was... 06:11.110 --> 06:12.070 Mind over matter. 06:12.210 --> 06:15.970 Yeah, just positive thinking and no doctors and the whole thing, you know. 06:18.930 --> 06:25.570 So when I was about 15, 16, I rebelled against everything that I was brought up 06:25.570 --> 06:27.090 in because it was so confusing, you know. 06:27.450 --> 06:32.170 I didn't really have any kind of a base, a foundation, you know. 06:32.170 --> 06:35.290 Because I was brought up, they were telling me that I really didn't have a 06:35.290 --> 06:35.970 body, you know. 06:36.250 --> 06:39.510 And, you know, although I clothed it and fed it, it wasn't real, you know. 06:39.530 --> 06:43.350 And I was just walking around going, you know, what am I doing here, 06:43.430 --> 06:43.670 you know. 06:43.870 --> 06:49.690 So I went the whole route of the young people today and especially then on the 06:49.690 --> 06:53.090 West Coast, you know, went to the drugs and Eastern religion and meditations and 06:53.090 --> 06:58.350 yoga and all these different things that I figured were going to satisfy me. 06:58.430 --> 07:01.230 And they did for hours or days at a time. 07:01.230 --> 07:05.490 But then I'd always come down and, you know, go, well, that didn't do it. 07:05.530 --> 07:09.310 Because I always knew that when I'd find true happiness and peace, it would last. 07:09.890 --> 07:11.930 And so you were just always searching, searching, searching. 07:11.950 --> 07:12.470 Oh, like crazy. 07:13.030 --> 07:13.350 Yeah. 07:14.170 --> 07:15.910 And I searched with my whole heart. 07:17.250 --> 07:22.110 And in all the Eastern religions and all the cults and all the world religions, 07:22.230 --> 07:24.370 they always gave some credit to Jesus Christ. 07:25.070 --> 07:27.870 The Muslims say that he was a prophet. 07:29.150 --> 07:32.890 The Krishnas say that he was an incarnation of the Godhead in his age. 07:34.870 --> 07:37.510 Yogananda and all these different Eastern teachers said that he had Christ 07:37.510 --> 07:38.030 consciousness. 07:38.250 --> 07:40.530 You know, they always used words like Christ consciousness, Christ this, 07:40.610 --> 07:41.190 Jesus that. 07:43.290 --> 07:45.150 The Buddhists would even say he was a Buddha. 07:45.470 --> 07:48.670 You know, he was another incarnation of God like Buddha was. 07:50.750 --> 07:54.430 And in all my searchings, I saw that all these people were pointing to Jesus. 07:54.570 --> 07:57.650 They're going, well, yeah, Jesus is one of the ways, but we're one of the ways. 07:57.650 --> 08:00.690 And they wouldn't all agree on anything except that Jesus was one of the ways. 08:01.150 --> 08:05.690 And then I looked into the Bible in John chapter 14, I think it is. 08:05.870 --> 08:07.350 Or John chapter 6. 08:07.570 --> 08:08.070 Yeah, it's 6. 08:08.630 --> 08:12.530 Where he says, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. 08:13.470 --> 08:14.990 No one gets to the Father but by me. 08:15.030 --> 08:17.130 So they all gave him credit and he only gave himself credit. 08:18.110 --> 08:20.170 And I went, well, that kind of eliminates everybody. 08:20.270 --> 08:21.330 They all say he's cool. 08:22.050 --> 08:24.710 And he says he's the only one that's going to get you there. 08:24.750 --> 08:25.810 So I guess I'm safe. 08:25.810 --> 08:27.450 So I started praying to Jesus. 08:28.470 --> 08:31.770 I did this all through intellectual reasoning and laid it out on the table. 08:31.910 --> 08:36.550 And figured it out that if they all gave him credit and he only gave himself 08:36.550 --> 08:36.890 credit. 08:37.470 --> 08:40.270 And they all agreed on one thing, that he was one of the ways. 08:40.430 --> 08:42.490 And he only agreed that he was the only way. 08:43.350 --> 08:45.670 So I figured I had no choice but to go with him. 08:46.410 --> 08:47.450 And then I started praying to Jesus. 08:48.050 --> 08:48.410 Wow. 08:50.070 --> 08:51.770 Was that another trip for you? 08:52.310 --> 08:54.830 In reading your biographical sketch. 08:54.830 --> 08:57.210 You're a child of the 60's, eh? 08:57.770 --> 08:58.830 In some ways. 08:58.930 --> 09:00.230 Yes, and the early 70's. 09:00.330 --> 09:03.190 And you've done all the experimentation. 09:03.990 --> 09:07.710 Whether it's the mine trip, the chemical trip, and so forth. 09:08.170 --> 09:13.250 At what point in your relationship with Christ did it all of a sudden occur to you 09:13.250 --> 09:15.210 that it wasn't the same as the other trips? 09:15.250 --> 09:17.130 In 1973 I started praying to Jesus. 09:17.310 --> 09:18.870 In 1975 I was born again. 09:19.930 --> 09:22.710 I went through an experience called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. 09:22.710 --> 09:24.450 It was written in May of 1975. 09:25.490 --> 09:27.590 I was baptized in water in June. 09:28.330 --> 09:29.810 And got into fellowship right there. 09:30.050 --> 09:31.710 And since then it's been... 09:32.530 --> 09:34.970 But for two years it was just a trip. 09:35.530 --> 09:36.890 Jesus was another guru. 09:37.270 --> 09:37.510 Yes. 09:37.750 --> 09:42.110 I was reading Bibles and praying, but I wasn't born again. 09:43.150 --> 09:44.330 What made the difference? 09:44.910 --> 09:47.670 What was that crucial moment of being born again? 09:47.770 --> 09:50.930 Accepting Jesus Christ as God. 09:51.790 --> 09:55.410 And accepting the Bible as literally word for word truth. 09:55.470 --> 09:57.130 You mean prior to that time he was a guru. 09:57.370 --> 09:59.530 He was a master, he was a teacher. 09:59.850 --> 10:00.650 He wasn't God in the flesh. 10:00.830 --> 10:01.990 Emmanuel, God with us. 10:02.210 --> 10:05.970 See, in Christian science what was brought up to say that Jesus was God was 10:05.970 --> 10:06.550 blasphemy. 10:07.950 --> 10:10.190 They made a very heavy emphasis on that. 10:10.270 --> 10:10.810 That Jesus was God. 10:10.810 --> 10:12.550 That was the main stumbling block to me. 10:12.930 --> 10:17.750 And I remember one day in the summer of 1975 walking down the street and looking 10:17.750 --> 10:20.110 up and going, All right Jesus, I buy it, you're God. 10:20.290 --> 10:21.030 And everything snapped. 10:21.750 --> 10:22.670 Bang, just like that. 10:22.750 --> 10:23.250 Just like that. 10:23.270 --> 10:24.990 You knew you were born again. 10:25.170 --> 10:25.470 Oh yeah. 10:26.570 --> 10:28.870 And isn't that the test that John says? 10:29.450 --> 10:33.150 That we confess that Jesus is God come in the flesh. 10:33.170 --> 10:33.350 Amen. 10:34.270 --> 10:37.970 And it's interesting, that snaps psychologically and spiritually and 10:37.970 --> 10:39.350 mentally with you. 10:39.470 --> 10:44.070 The only way you can become born again is by your own will accepting Jesus as who he 10:44.070 --> 10:44.870 is, who he said he was. 10:45.470 --> 10:49.230 You can't become born again unless your will agrees to be born again and agrees to 10:49.230 --> 10:50.950 make you born again. 10:52.870 --> 10:54.530 And I was holding out. 10:54.750 --> 10:55.490 I was very stubborn. 10:55.610 --> 10:56.570 I didn't want to be religious. 10:57.110 --> 10:58.130 I didn't want to be traditional. 10:59.910 --> 11:03.150 I didn't want to be classified with the Protestants and Catholics fighting in 11:03.150 --> 11:07.450 Ireland and the Moslems and Christians fighting in Lebanon and the charlatans on 11:07.450 --> 11:11.250 TV and radio that spend 10 minutes preaching and 50 minutes begging for 11:11.250 --> 11:11.450 money. 11:11.670 --> 11:13.390 I didn't want to do that. 11:13.390 --> 11:15.470 There was so much hypocrisy. 11:15.970 --> 11:18.890 If it wasn't for hypocrisy, I would have become a Christian five years before that. 11:19.130 --> 11:22.210 But all the Christians I knew were so busy getting blessed. 11:22.870 --> 11:26.650 They were so busy going to functions and concerts and listening to their Christian 11:26.650 --> 11:28.810 albums and going to their fundraising dinners and all these things. 11:29.270 --> 11:33.190 But the Jehovah's Witnesses would come to my door and spend four or five hours with 11:33.190 --> 11:33.370 me. 11:33.650 --> 11:35.850 I didn't find a Christian that had that time for me. 11:36.410 --> 11:39.310 And I was needing that love and that example. 11:39.310 --> 11:44.470 You mentioned, the way you were brought up, it was blasphemy to say that Jesus is 11:44.470 --> 11:44.830 God. 11:45.030 --> 11:48.750 Well, now, those that came to your door and spent four or five hours teach that 11:48.750 --> 11:49.730 he's some kind of an angel. 11:49.730 --> 11:50.410 Oh, absolutely. 11:51.650 --> 11:57.310 Did you discover that as they would come in with their teaching? 11:58.070 --> 11:59.410 Or how did that come... 11:59.410 --> 12:02.550 It was really a blessing because at the time when the Jehovah's Witnesses would 12:02.550 --> 12:04.310 come to my door and argue with me for four hours, 12:07.450 --> 12:11.710 I didn't want to be part of any organized religious experience. 12:12.090 --> 12:15.450 Therefore, I turned them off as I would have turned Baptists if they would have 12:15.450 --> 12:15.930 come to the door. 12:15.990 --> 12:17.970 Unless they would have been able to show me the truth. 12:17.970 --> 12:19.790 I was looking for the true spirit of Christ. 12:19.890 --> 12:21.070 I was looking for the Holy Spirit. 12:21.470 --> 12:23.050 I was looking for the true Jesus. 12:23.150 --> 12:25.490 It was kind of like in a world of false Jesuses. 12:25.750 --> 12:27.950 Will the real Jesus please stand up, kind of a thing. 12:28.230 --> 12:31.150 I was looking for the same Jesus that died on the cross. 12:31.150 --> 12:38.390 But at the moment that you said, OK, Jesus, you are God, it all came 12:38.390 --> 12:38.870 together. 12:39.250 --> 12:41.930 You knew that your search was finished. 12:42.370 --> 12:42.410 Absolutely. 12:43.530 --> 12:47.450 Oh, blessed is the man who has found the object of his search. 12:47.570 --> 12:51.170 There are some people who take searching itself and they deify that. 12:51.730 --> 12:53.450 They worship the act of searching. 12:53.690 --> 12:54.430 I am a seeker. 12:54.990 --> 12:56.930 But how did you know that Jesus was God? 12:57.570 --> 12:58.790 He proved it to me. 12:59.910 --> 13:00.910 He changed me. 13:01.870 --> 13:04.070 That was the greatest miracle that he could have done. 13:04.170 --> 13:08.110 I could have seen Mount Everest go skipping across the United States and jump 13:08.110 --> 13:08.690 into the ocean. 13:08.830 --> 13:11.670 And that wouldn't have done as much for me as him changing me. 13:14.270 --> 13:16.370 Well, for those two years, like I said, I prayed to him. 13:16.430 --> 13:20.770 And he, through his grace and mercy and patience, wooed me. 13:21.170 --> 13:23.130 Step by step, through the Bible. 13:23.870 --> 13:25.450 Just between my own personal search. 13:25.910 --> 13:28.810 And brought me to a place where I was willing to be a religious fool. 13:30.310 --> 13:32.330 Where I was willing to be a radical. 13:32.610 --> 13:36.190 Where I was willing to be made a complete laughing stock. 13:36.430 --> 13:38.810 Before that, I wasn't willing to go door to door. 13:38.950 --> 13:39.990 Or willing to go out on the streets. 13:40.070 --> 13:41.110 Or willing to go into prisons. 13:41.210 --> 13:43.390 Or willing to go to people and go, do you know Jesus? 13:43.490 --> 13:44.510 I said, I'll never do that. 13:44.730 --> 13:47.310 I wasn't willing to be made a fool for Christ. 13:47.870 --> 13:49.270 And for those two years, he wooed me. 13:49.270 --> 13:53.190 And then, like I said, in April of 1975, I was baptized in the Spirit. 13:53.690 --> 13:55.970 And April, May, right around there. 13:56.430 --> 13:59.910 And got into fellowship with a fine fellowship in California. 14:00.190 --> 14:01.810 Called the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. 14:02.490 --> 14:04.130 Ken Gullickson, his pastor. 14:06.630 --> 14:08.190 Then, right in that time. 14:08.570 --> 14:12.530 And when I received Jesus as Savior and Lord, I still didn't believe. 14:12.930 --> 14:15.170 I believed that he could be God. 14:15.190 --> 14:17.890 But I didn't believe he was absolutely God in the flesh. 14:19.030 --> 14:21.350 And it took about two more months after that. 14:21.430 --> 14:22.610 And he was patient with me. 14:22.950 --> 14:25.110 Now, I don't know exactly what moment I was born again. 14:27.590 --> 14:28.970 It doesn't really matter to me. 14:29.730 --> 14:32.950 But to your friends who have gone through all the kind of religious tripping that 14:32.950 --> 14:33.670 you have gone through. 14:34.330 --> 14:37.910 They say to you, fine, we'll give you a couple more years. 14:37.910 --> 14:41.450 I've learned a lot from Jesus by just sitting down and showing them that I 14:41.450 --> 14:43.250 believe what I'm asking them to believe. 14:43.250 --> 14:48.790 See, witnessing, you win half the battle when you can convince someone you believe. 14:49.690 --> 14:52.970 If you can't get someone to believe something that you can't convince them you 14:52.970 --> 14:53.330 don't believe. 14:53.550 --> 14:55.430 Keith, your pulpit. 14:56.210 --> 14:59.770 When you talk to young people like those, there were hundreds and hundreds there. 14:59.850 --> 15:02.010 But 150 of them came to give their lives to Jesus. 15:02.310 --> 15:03.650 Your pulpit is the piano. 15:04.110 --> 15:05.390 We prayed for your voice. 15:05.870 --> 15:07.010 We just believe the Lord. 15:07.070 --> 15:07.590 How does it feel? 15:07.670 --> 15:08.370 Sounds good to me. 15:08.370 --> 15:11.470 I'm going to ask you, we've got, listen, we've got, I don't know, 15:11.530 --> 15:13.490 maybe five, six or seven minutes through. 15:13.830 --> 15:15.110 Until the one hour break. 15:15.250 --> 15:16.670 We have to take a one hour break today. 15:16.970 --> 15:19.930 Would you just take that time, right up to that break. 15:20.370 --> 15:23.830 And the floor manager will count you to the point where you've got to quit. 15:23.930 --> 15:25.910 And go on over to that piano and just minister. 15:26.050 --> 15:26.730 Give an invitation. 15:26.890 --> 15:27.890 Do whatever you wish, Keith. 15:28.310 --> 15:29.930 And just talking to the young people. 15:30.030 --> 15:32.870 Invite them to use the phones or whatever. 15:33.150 --> 15:37.690 You just feel free because there is Keith Green's pulpit, the piano. 15:37.690 --> 15:38.630 Praise the Lord. 15:38.750 --> 15:40.370 Keith, just minister to us.
